Canoes & Guns

Saturday & Sunday we headed off to the lake with our Life Group. The Freeman’s invited our group to spend the weekend at Lindsey’s grandparents cabin at Cedar Crest Country Club on Spring Creek Lake. It is a private lake and is amazing!

We visited for a weekend this past spring so we were expecting a great time, but it was even better than we hoped. We arrived Saturday morning about 10:15a and started with a nice walk along the lake. It was chilly and breezy but overall a gorgeous fall day. After a great lunch of homemade chili we headed out on quick fishing trip. I didn’t catch a darn thing, but several people had some luck. Having a contingent of OU fans on the trip along with one A&M fan we had to head back to the cabin and watch the Sooners demolish the Aggies. With darkness surrounding us by the time the OU game was over we stayed in for the night and enjoyed homemade chicken noodle soup, football and a crackling fire. I actually fell asleep in the recliner next to the fireplace about 8:45p!

Sunday morning we woke up fairly early and I made breakfast for everyone including chocolate raspberry pancakes. Thanks to Target for putting that mix together, cause it was yummy! With only a few hours remaining before heading back home we jumped in the canoes and took a couple of laps around the lake. I tried to fish from the canoe but couldn’t get a bite and then I lost the tip of my pole. Arrgh. Following the workout in the canoes we headed over to a field and shot skeet. I even got Jenny to shoot a shotgun! For some reason we failed to take any pictures until we pulled the guns out. So, here you go:

Fall Yard Work

Sunday we rolled up our sleeves and got to workin’ in the yard.  We transplanted some nandinas from in front of the porch to the area along the walk way.  We then filled in the area where the nandinas were with boxwoods to match the other side.  It will take a year or so for it all to fill in, but we think it is a good change.  I also planted about 40 tulip bulbs of all colors in the front beds.  When spring hits come on by the house and check out the tulips but make sure you bring your wooden shoes.

Josh also disobeyed doctor’s orders and built a new firewood rack for the backyard.  Then proceeded to move about 3/4 of a rick to the new rack.  Jacob helped, but unfortunately we didn’t get any new pics of that.  Of course, his shoulder hurts today.

First Trip to Bass Pro Shops

Jenny and the boys are headed to OKC this weekend to spend time with Mimi & Poppy and Jenny’s girlfriends. I am taking a camping trip with a few guys from our small group at church. And no camping trip would be complete without a trip to Bass Pro Shops right? So, in the spirit of camping we loaded up the family and headed out for Jenny, Jacob & Jeffer’s first trip to the outdoor wonderland.

Jacob had a great time staring at the huge freshwater fish tank and climbing onto every boat in the store. Jeffer enjoyed pulling Jacob’s hair as he walked along the cart. Jenny decided she needed a cast iron skillet (although, I am not sure if it was for cooking or beating me on the head). I decided I needed this:

Yes you are seeing that right. It is a propane fired outdoor deep fryer with six fry baskets, dual 8.5 gallon tanks (total 17 gallons of oil), dual temperature controls and wheels! If you would like to purchase it for me please click here.

We had a great time and other than $55 in various merchandise we bought it was a cheap way to spend the evening.

Hopefully I have some great fishing tales to share soon.
