A New Light In the Guest Room
One of the things that drew us to our new home was the guest room with it’s own bathroom. Â With all of our immediate family 2+ hours away we’ve always wanted a space for them to stay when they visit. Â While we love our family and want them to be comfortable when they come the guest room isn’t high on the list of rooms to remodel. Â The room itself just needs a couple coats of paint. Â The bathroom is small, but has potential. Â The wall tile is period black & white and the floor is tiled in a cool period honeycomb tile. Â The most immediate need is light & heat. Â The room has a ceiling fan with no light and for some reason the room has no register for heating & cooling.
Several weeks ago I was driving down the expressway when I saw a sign advertising a lighting store’s going out of business sale. Â Never one to turn away from a sale I cut across traffic, found the exit and made my way to the store. Â The store owner had died and his wife was closing the store. Â It was the last day of the sale and light fixtures were everywhere. Â After digging through multiple stacks I came across this bathroom wall sconce.

It was marked $100 and I was disappointed because I really liked it. Â I meandered around for a bit then decided to try a bit of haggling. Â I walked away light in hand having paid $20. Â Not really knowing much about what I’d bought I looked it up when I got back home and found the light for sale online for upwards of $250. Â The reason I liked the fixture was the glass is the same as the original glass in the sconces in the other bathrooms in the house. Â I finally installed it last night and it looks really sharp. Â It will look even better when we get around to painting the bathroom. Â We haven’t selected a light fixture for the room, so I took the light fixture from the bathroom and installed it in the room. Â If any of our guests want to paint the room please let us know.
