Easter 2011

Easter weekend was a bit rainy this year.  We had fun at the Jenks Herb Festival, but we didn’t take any fun pictures.  We dyed eggs, but didn’t hunt them.

We even failed to capture good pictures of the boys in their Easter outfits.

We may not have great photographic evidence, but it was a great weekend!

America’s 233 Birthday

We celebrated Independence Day 2009 in a laid back Roby kind o’ way.  We did a little clearance rack browsing at the mall, followed by a cookout at the Housley’s and finally an attempt at viewing fireworks down by the river. It was a great day even if the fireworks show were cut short due to a major malfunction.

Easter Baskets

Jenny made up Easter baskets for the boys.  This was their first time to wake up to Easter baskets so the concept was foreign.  However, it didn’t take long for them to catch on.  Jacob’s favorite was a package of plastic golf balls.  Jeffer loved his new Curious George stamp set.

PS:  The plastic golf balls were from me in an effort to keep his fingers off mine.

Gammy’s Easter Baskets

Mom (Gammy) came up this morning and is spending today & tomorrow with us.  She came prepared.  The boys went running the moment she pulled up and when the door opened they went crazy as usual.  But today was different because she was carrying two Easter baskets packed with goodies.  It didn’t take long for the goodies to be ripped out, the plastic grass spread everywhere and the toys to be enjoyed.

The Eating of Mr Snowman, Day One (aka Christmas Eve)

We started our Christmas Eve celebrations with some last minute gift buying (including a last minute delivery from UPS of Auntie Jules’ John Denver box set).  With all the presents bought and most wrapped and under the tree we headed off to a great service at LifeChurch.tv.  Derrick and the band did an amazing job.  You can see their rendition of Little Drummer Boy below:

After church we enjoyed a meal of chicken wings from Wing Stop. The boys weren’t really sure what to think, but after a few bites they dug in!

For dessert we finally decided to cut into Mr Snowman. Jenny sliced from the bottom and oh was he tasty.

Now I am off to watch Jenny wrap presents and put some milk and cake out for Santa. No cookies this year, he gets some of Mr Snowman.

The Making of Mr Snowman, Day Two

Day two of making Mr Snowman was much more fun than day one.  It was decorating day!  The boys loved helping put all the frosting and other decorations on him.  Most of his decorations are varies kinds of frosting, but he has coconut snow on his hat and marshmallow snow at his feet.

Now we just need to figure out how and when to eat him.  He looks too cute to eat!

The Making of Mr Snowman, Day One

Today I embarked on baking a snowman cake.  Josh bought the pan for me last year from Williams-Sonoma but an occasion hasn’t arisen to utilize it.  I didn’t realize it was going to take several days, but has turned into quite a process.  Here are the pictures from day one.

Christmas Parade

We continued our six Christmas parties in five nights with a party at my office Saturday night.  Our office is on the corner of 4th & Boston Ave in downtown Tulsa and overlooks the route of Tulsa’s Parade of Lights.  The bank orders a bunch of pizza and everyone brings their families to enjoy the parade from the warm interior of the bank.

Jacob was not real intersted in sitting still why the parade was going by, but was interested in running around the bank and playing with whatever he could find.  Seeing a lot of computers turned off was an absolute nightmare for Jacob.  I think the blank, black screens were calling out to him to come turn them on and play.

On the other hand, Jefferson enjoyed standing still and watching the bands and colorful floats.  He sat or stood with my assistant Karen nearly the entire time and was very sad when Santa came by and the parade was over.

Fa la la la la, la la la la…

Once the inside halls and walls were decorated it was time to head outside and light up the house.

Sunday after church we bought new lights and a timer so we wouldn’t run up the PSO bill by leaving the show on all night.  Josh has wanted the “big” lights for several years now and he finally broke down and bought them at Lowe’s…because they were on sale.  We had a hard time keeping the boys contained why Josh was up on the ladder and I fed him the lights.  They really were anxious to see the lights and wanted to come and help hang them.

This was also the first year we had exterior outlets on the house so we didn’t have to rig up the porch light to feed the entire outside lightshow.

We also hung a couple strands on the back of the house for a little extra flair.  Next year we are going to go all out and buy some inflatable snowmen and Josh is going to put a big “OU” on the roof.

Decking the halls

In our typical holiday tradition we drug all of our decorations out of the attic and began to deck the halls Thanksgiving weekend.  Jefferson absolutely loved watching me put the ornaments on, but he loved even more trying to take them off.
